I just got back from Branson....Na.Na.NaNA.NA.
I went and saw my favorite show SPIRIT OF THE DANCE.
As I have said before, I DO NOT LIKE COUNTRY/WESTERN MUSIC especially the OLD country/western and I will NOT waste my money on "Hee Haw" humor. That cuts a FEW shows out of the Branson show list but I love dance shows.
The best dance show in Branson is Spirit Of The Dance since that is about all they do: DANCE and MORE DANCE.
The show is a high energy dance show of not only Irish dance music but about every form of dance in existence. They have Irish, Tango, Country/Western line dance, modern "stomp", tap, soft shoe, and a little ballet thrown in (look hard and it is there).
The dancers put on a good variety of the different types of music. The show moves very quickly from one dance type to the other. I was told that the dancers have less than 90 seconds to change clothes between a couple of numbers. The women change their costumes AND their hair between numbers. I find it amazing since my girlfriend takes 30 minutes to do her hair to go to a movie. Please, NO ONE TELL HER I SAID THAT.
There is a little singing in the show. The first year I saw Spirit (2006), there were only about 3 singing numbers in the show. Last year they added 1 or 2 more singing numbers to help give the dancers time to change costumes and rest after a heavy dance number. They are placed after hard dance numbers or between major costume/hair changes.
I consider the show great for females ages 5 and up. For boys, 14 and up. Girls like the female dancers and the costumes and I have seen many young girls enthralled by the music, dancers and costumes. I have heard at intermission “mom I want to be a dancer like them”. The young boys under 14 are bored with a bunch of girls on stage dancing. At 14 and up, I have heard then say at intermission “mom, I want one of THOSE dancers for Christmas”. I hope they meant the girls, I never asked.
Older girls and women like the handsome guys in the show. Older boys and men like the female dancers………Sorry I had a flashback there…it’s a male thing. I don’t think married couples get to see much of the show since they are always watching their mates making sure they are NOT looking too closely at the dancers.
The show has not changed much since last year. I was told they were supposed to add a couple of numbers this year but they are not in the show now. I hope they add them in/back in. If you have not seen it TOO MANY TIMES, it won’t matter because the old dance numbers were GREAT but I like a little change in a show each year.
