I went and saw the 3d animated movie because I am a big fan of the entire Star Wars saga.
I like the story and the action but the characters drove me crazy. The were 3D scanned from what looks like a plastic model. You can even see the brush marks on some of the characters (hair was real 'drawn on').
I know it was all done using the state-of-the-art 3D animation but some scenes reminded me of the old "stop gap animation" where they would have clay models and move them one frame at a time (Nightmare Before Christmas was one of the ones done using that method). They could have at least cleaned up the scans and removed the brush marks.
They movie is a "lead in" to an animated series that is coming out this year. I was told that they were going to use the same 3D engine for the cartoon series.
I don't know. They story was very good (better than I expected) for a cartoon. They added some new characters including Anakin's student that he has to train in the Jedi arts which happens to be a sassy young girl. It was a fun movie, I just felt that Lucas Studios could have done a little better job with the 3D animation than was done.
